The University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is a higher education institution focusing on graduate education. With four campuses in Beijing and five education centers outside the capital city,
UCAS is also backed by more than 100 CAS institutes throughout China specializing in all branches of the natural and engineering sciences. UCAS  implements a two-layer education system whereby course work is carried out at the Beijing campuses, while research work is primarily carried out at the various CAS institutes. At present, there are over 40,000 graduate students at UCAS, of whom 50% are doctoral students.
To date, UCAS has conferred masters and doctoral degrees to more than 109,000 students.
