Diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders etc are due to over-production of free radicals in normal cell regulation processes. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) are various forms of activated oxygen and nitrogen. These include free radicals such as superoxide ions (O2?), hydroxyl (OH?) and nitric oxide radicals (NO?). Overproduction of these free radicals weakens the natural antioxidant system, first resulting in oxidative stress and then leading to oxidative injury and finally to numerous dangerous disease. Focus is on finding a potent protective natural medicine and development of potent neuroprotective agents for various neurological disorders.
