Current Research Activities

I am working at the Nuclear and Radiation Chemistry Division of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in the field of radiation modification of polymers since November 2009. Presently I am working on the application of radiation technology in the field of environmental preservation and energy sector. Particularly I am performing research on remediation of environmental pollution caused by the discharge of heavy metal in industrial waste water. Some of the research conducted by me the on heavy metal removal by radiation grafted adsorbents are as follows : (1) Preparation of amidoxime adsorbent by radiation induced grafting of acrylonitrile on polyethylene film and its application in Cr(VI) removal (2) Preparation and characterization of iminodiacetate group containing nonwoven polyethylene fabrics and its application in chromium adsorption (3) The effect of hot DMSO treatment on the γ-ray induced grafting of acrylamide onto PET films (4) Selective Hg(II) adsorption from aqueous solutions of Hg(II) and Pb(II) by hydrolyzed acrylamide-grafted PET films (5) Selective Cu(II) adsorption from aqueous solutions including Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) by modified acrylic acid grafted PET film. I am also doing research on preparation and radiation modification of biodegradable packaging materials from natural sources. Some of the works done by me in this field are as follows: (1) Preparation and property analysis of biodegradable packaging film from alginate, starch and citric acid (2) Preparation and characterization of Starch/Polyvinyl Alcohol blend films by the application of gamma radiation (3) Preparation of gelatin/poly(vinyl alcohol) film modified by methyl methacrylate and gamma irradiation (4) Modification of mechanical and thermal property of chitosan–starch blend films. Research interests of mine also includes fabrication of fuel cell membranes by radiation grafting method. Some of the works done by the candidate in this field are as follows: (1) UV radiation induced graft copolymerization of allyl acetate onto poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) films for fuel cell membranes (2) Preparation and characterization of radiation grafted proton exchange membranes of LLDPE.
