National Chapters are at the heart of OWSD’s mission to enhance outcomes for women in science in developing countries

National Chapters make up OWSD's global community and any developing country with more than 20 members can apply for National Chapter status.

Organic Network

OWSD is a capillary network of women scientists across the Global South, extending its reach into diverse and challenging regions.

In 2025, OWSD has 57 national chapters throughout Africa, Asia, the Arab region and Latin America. Chapters are active and growing:  in 2024 we welcomed three new chapters in Iraq, Costa Rica and Cuba.

Each year, OWSD National Chapters design and deliver numerous events and activities to support and engage their local communities, advancing women and girls' participation in STEM.

Events include outreach activities, conferences, science talks, training sessions, and workshops. Many activities are funded through the OWSD Secretariat's annual call for applications, while other chapters raise funds in partnership with local institutions and businesses.

This collaborative effort underscores the unique effectiveness and impact of OWSD’s network of 57 National Chapters worldwide, each responding to identified needs and contributing to the advancement of women in science within their  regions.
