Water and Sanitation
Clean water and sanitation has a significant gender dimension. Women and girls disproportionately bear the burden of water collection and sanitation challenges, which can impact their health, education, and economic opportunities. Ensuring access to safe water and sanitation is crucial for achieving gender equality and overall sustainable development. Numerous OWSD members are working in this field, identifying local, national, and regional challenges and developing actionable solutions (e.g., removing arsenic from river water; designing wastewater systems).
