Multidisciplinary research in the area of human genetics. Dr.A.Venkateshwari was born on 18th June, 1970 in Hyderabad of Telangana State. She completed M.Sc. (Genetics) in 1992 and Ph.D. (Genetics) in 1998 from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Title of her PhD thesis is “A Study on the Genetic and Biochemical aspects of Duodenal Ulcers”. Dr.Venkateshwari appointed as Director (I/c) at Institute of Genetics & Hospital for Genetic Diseases Osmania University, Begumpet, Hyderabad since August 22, 2016. Before joining in the University service, she worked as School Assistant for 8 years in various Government High Schools. Her research interests include Human Genetics/Medical Genetics. She published more than 88 papers in various peer reviewed national and international journals and 6 book chapters. She presented more than 80 papers and delivered several invited talks in national and international conferences. She carried out six sponsored research projects successfully funded by Department of Biotechnology and University Grants Commission. Currently she is handling two ongoing projects recommended by DBT as Principal Investigator in “Postnatal and Prenatal Diagnosis of Non Syndromic Sensorineural Hearing Loss in the Telangana Region of South India” and as Course Co-ordinator “Post Graduate Diploma Program in Medical Biotechnology on Genetic Counseling With Special Emphasis On Pre Natal And Post Natal Diagnosis”. She is the Coordinator for certificate courses in “Clinical genetics: Diagnostics and Management” and “Genetic Counseling” offered at the Institute. Dr.Venkateshwari awarded ICMR International Fellowship for Indian Biomedical Scientists in 2016 and worked as Post Doctoral Fellow at Mitchell Cancer Institute, University of South Alabama, USA. She carried out research on Expression studies of DNA damage repair genes in ovarian cancer and breast cancer cell lines. Post doctoral work was carried out at Mitchell Cancer Institute University of South Alabama, Mobile, USA Knock down studies were carried out in cultured human cancer and normal cell lines to understand the role of BRIP1/FANCJ on the DNA damage response and repair proteins involved in repair of DNA double strand breaks. A collaborative project was also proposed and executed by the parent department and host institute. The primer sequences for the FANCJ gene were designed and synthesized to undertake the mutation analysis in patients with ovarian cancer and also in patients with Breast cancer
