Biological Systems and Organisms

Current research focus is on drug design and development involving the development of novel drug targets that are competitive reversible inhibitors of the enzyme monoamine oxidase B, which could be used in the treatment of parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative disease. Cyclic imides such as n-methyl-2-phenylamaleimides were recently found to be moderate to potent inhibitors of the moa-B enzyme, we are currently looking at other derivatives of this class of interesting compounds such as phenylpthalimdes and homophthalimides.
