OWSD Bangladesh National Chapter & Chattogram Veterinary And Animal Science University jointly organized a Webinar on 'Women Empowerment for Sustainable Development' on 10 March 2021 in celebration of IWD2021. OWSD-BDNC Chair Dr. Sharmin Parveen chaired the session. Prof Dr. Paritosh Kumar Biswas, Department of Microbiology and Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Director, Poultry Research and Training Centre (PRTC) was the chief guest of the webinar. Dr. Jannatara Khatun, OWSD alumnae, Professor,Department of Animal Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was present as the special guest. Two speakers Prof. Sharmin Chowdhury of Department of Pathology and Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine andDirector, One Health Institut and Dr. Jakia Sultana Jothi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Food Processing and Engineering, Faculty of Food Science and Technology shared their challenges they faced during the journey on acheiving higher education as a woman. Their inspiring story will surely inspire other young girls who are on the process of pursuing higher eduction in the field of STEM. Prof Parithosh mentioned that in Bangladesh half of the population are women and without empowering them a country can not move forward. He also gave emphasis on the role of men in the family. Chair Dr. Sharmin highled the aims & objectives of OWSD in empowering women in the field of STEM. She mentioned the various types of fellowship programs and awards of OWSD. She welcome the female as well as male participants to become the member of OWSD. She explained vividly how women can achieve leadership by beleiving in herself. She also mentioned the barriers women are facing in their journey in the STEM field. The program was moderated by OWSD member Dr. Helena Khatun, Assistant Professor, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries. The session was ended by giving thanks to all the guests, speakers and participants by the moderator.
