My major research focuses mostly on the functional genomics of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) largely prospecting of viral pathogenesis intended to address two major hurdles faced by PRRS vaccinology i.e. low genetic fidelity and limited cross-protection. PRRSV, a quickly evolving RNA virus, is the most challenging threat to the swine industries worldwide. Previously, we have been developed a candidate strain of PRRSV through mutagen-driven lethal mutagenesis which possesses high genetic stability evinced during replication sequentially in pigs passage by passage. And, the cross-protective efficacy against PRRSV strains was enhanced by introducing heterogeneity in the neutralizing epitopes constructed into an immunogenic backbone of PRRSV using reverse-genetics approaches. Wherein, we have been developed a chimeric vaccine platform for PRRSV aimed to enhance the heterologous protection against highly divergent PRRSV strains. Besides, to gain the holistic view of PRRS, we have also been focusing on the host-genetics associated with increased resistance and immune-responses against PRRSVs to understand the genetic basis of the disease resistance in pigs. Currently, I’m working as a Postdoctoral Researcher focusing on couple of research projects and also been involved as a Research in-Charge for the graduate’s (master and doctoral students) in the same department.
