About me

Dr. Ana María Valenzuela Muñiz is a Full-Time Research Professor at the Tecnológico Nacional de México / Instituto Tecnológico de Cancún and a Level 2 member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI). She holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from CIMAV and has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Ohio University, focusing on clean energy.
With over 18 years of experience, her research covers nanomaterials, green hydrogen, energy storage, and sargassum valorization. She collaborates with the Mexican Hydrogen Society, the National Hydrogen Technology Laboratory, and the Climate Change and Sargassum Roundtable of Quintana Roo.
A strong advocate for women in STEM, she mentors through NiñaSTEM Pueden, Ellas en la Ciencia, and UNAM’s STEAM Mentorship Program 2025. Her work advances clean energy, sustainability, and education with a focus on equity and environmental impact.

Dr. Ana María Valenzuela Muñiz
She is a Full-Time Research Professor at the Tecnológico Nacional de México/Instituto Tecnológico de Cancún and is recognized by the National System of Researchers, Level 2.
She is a chemical engineer who earned her Master's and Doctorate degrees in Materials Science, both from the Center for Advanced Materials Research (CIMAV) in Chihuahua. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Electrochemical Engineering Research Center at Ohio University in the United States, where she worked on projects related to clean energy.
With over 18 years of research experience, she has developed and published works on nanomaterials, energy production and storage, green hydrogen, and the utilization of sargassum. She has supervised theses for engineering, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral students, contributing to the training of new generations of scientists. She is also a member of the Climate Change and Sargassum Roundtable of the State of Quintana Roo, a member of the Mexican Hydrogen Society, and collaborates with the National Hydrogen Technology Laboratory of CONACYT (now SECIHTI) through the Cancún Institute of Technology.
In addition to her scientific work, Dr. Valenzuela Muñiz is distinguished by her commitment to mentoring and promoting women in STEM (STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). She was a founding mentor of the "NiñaSTEM Pueden" Network in the State of Quintana Roo. She is an active collaborator of the "Ellas en la Ciencia" program of the Quintana Roo Ministry of Education and is a member of the "Network of Mentors of the South-Southeast Mexico STEAM Mentorship Program," participating in the "STEAM Mentorship 2025 Program," coordinated by the UNAM's ENES Mérida.
Her interests focus on the development of advanced materials that contribute to the production of clean energy, water conservation, and the sustainable use of natural resources. Her work seeks to generate a positive impact on the environment and community life, with a firm commitment to equity and education
