Degrees:
2018
Doctorate Medical and Health Sciences incl Neurosciences
Completed doctorate under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Aarts and Dr. Mauricio Terebiznik at The University of Toronto, Department of Cell & Systems Biology, with fellowships from CIHR and OGS. Other institutional affiliations included The Department of Biological Sciences (UTSC), Centre for the Neurobiology of Stress (UTSC) and Toronto Western Hospital (UHN). Area of study was neuroscience with a focus on cell and molecular research methods. Doctoral research examined gene expression of TRP channels in both developmental and ischemic brain injury with a specific interest in microglia, TRP channels, TRPM2, TRPM7, ischemia, stroke, astroglia, neurons, developmental and injury/disease models of the brain. Research methodology expertise includes: cell culture (primary and cell line), in vitro and in vivo brain injury/disease models (e.g. surgical procedures), cloning, gene expression assays, in vitro transcription, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, western blot analyses, and other cell/molecular biology assays.
