Doctorate Biological Systems and Organisms
ECOLOGY (TROPICAL ARID LANDS) UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE, UK. THE RESEARCH CENTERED IN ADAPTATIONS OF TROPICAL TREES TO ENVIRONMENTAL FORCES SUCH AS DROUGHT, UNPREDICTABILITY OF RAINS AND HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE RESULT LED TO UNDERSTANDING POTENTIAL ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGES AND THE CAPAPABILITY OF EVERGREEN TREES TO HARVEST WATER FROM MIST OR FOG AND ITS UTILIZATION DURING REPRODUCTIVE FENOLOGY. THESE RESULTS LED TO THE DESING OF AGROFROESTRY SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABLE USE OF WATER .
1984
Master Biological Systems and Organisms
ECOPHYSIOLOGY OF ARID LAND PLANTS, THIS STUDIES CENTERED IN UNDESRTANDING THE SURVIVAL MECHANISMS OF SUCULENT AND NON SUCCULENT CACTUS IN THE TROPICAL ARID LANDS IN NORTHWESTERN VENEZUELA. THE RESULTS SHOWED THE CAPPABILITY OF NOCTURNAL CARBON FIXATION IN A LEAFED CACTUS (PERESKIA GUAMACHO) INDUCED BY DROUHGHT- WHEREAS ALL OTHER SUCCULENT CACTI SHOWED OBLIGATED NOCTURNAL FIXATION OF CARBON. THE STUDIES INCLUDED ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND, ECOLOGY OF XEROPHITIC FOREST AND ITS POTENTIAL APLICATION TO ALTERNATIVE AGRICULTURE SYSTEMS IN ARID LANDS.
