I pursued Microbiology and Chemistry with a research focus on medical microbiology. I conducted my undergraduate research project on HIV molecular subtyping.
2007
Master     Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology
This was MSc programme by publication registered at the University of Dar es Salaam and funded by IMPACT project through Ifakara Health Institute. MSc research was focused on P. falciparum molecular markers of drug resistance. This work informed the national malaria control program of the status of drug resistance in order to plan for malaria treatment policy.
2016
Doctorate     Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology
This was a PhD programme by publication jointly conducted at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences with a one year commonwealth split-side funding to study and perform lab assays at King’s College London, UK. The major funding was from Wellcome Trust East Africa Strategic Award. PhD research was focused on genetic determinants of Sickle Cell Disease in Tanzania. This was the first SCD genetic work in Tanzania and contributed the first SCD Genome wide association study in Africa.
