I am reading for a PhD in Environmental Biotechnology at the Institute for Environmental Biotechnology, Rhodes University. My research focus is on natural treatment systems for for waste water treatment with a particular interest in constructed wetlands and waste stabilization ponds. The main aim of the study is to evaluate the performance and costs of vertical-horizontal hybrid constructed wetlands and waste stabilization ponds in the treatment of domestic waste water with the objective of comparing the two systems in meeting the discharge standards and implications of the treated effluent for water reuse.
